David Atanacio & Orquesta Champán D' Barrio play a seventh anniversary concert at Saddlebrook Live's Puerto Rican Pride Night in Wesley Chapel on Nov. 21.
Tampa Bay salsa brava band David Atanacio & Orquesta Champán D’ Barrio will celebrate its seventh anniversary with a live concert at Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 21, the headline act of the second Saddlebrook Live night from St. Petersburg producer Maloof Entertainment.
The evening is billed as Puerto Rican Pride Night and an All Black Affair. It runs in the Royal Palm Ballroom from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m., and the first 50 tickets cost $20 until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The series’ opening night in September drew 366 guests, Maloof Entertainment said.
The orchestra and its leader
Orquesta Champán D’ Barrio is an 11-piece salsa brava orchestra; its logo gives 2019 as the year it was founded. Its leader, singer David Atanacio, “has been featured on Latin Grammy nominated and winning albums,” the producer says.
The event’s ticket page adds that Atanacio “sang on the front line of Willie Rosario’s legendary orchestra” and was “raised in Bayamón and Cataño, Puerto Rico,” and that “he now leads his own 11 piece orchestra here in Tampa Bay, and he’s celebrating its 7th anniversary with you.”
How the night runs
Doors open at 7 p.m., when DJ Mike Sensation from New York City and DJ Rumbero from Philadelphia start the music. The orchestra then plays live, and the dancing goes on until 2 a.m. The ticket page lists salsa, freestyle, bachata and house music through the night.
Black clothing is encouraged but not required. “Bring your flag and your pride. Wear black if you can. It’s encouraged, never required, and everyone is welcome,” the listing says.
Two dance workshops before the doors open
Guests who want to make a day of it can book two workshops led by Jenny Marie of Dance Therapy To Go, sold separately from evening admission:
- Ladies Styling, 3 to 5 p.m., $45. The listing describes “body isolations, arm styling and smoother spins, just for the ladies.”
- Lead & Follow Salsa, 6 to 7 p.m., $25 a person. “Timing and connection for all levels, singles and couples welcome,” the listing says. “Learn it at 6, practice it with the DJs at 7, and use it when the orchestra takes the stage.”
Tickets and tables
Evening admission goes up in three steps:
- First 50 tickets: $20, until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 31 or until that tier sells out, whichever comes first.
- Advance: $25, from Sunday, Nov. 1.
- Day of show: $30, online and at the door.
Reserved tables include admission for everyone at the table. The ticket page lists a Stage Side Table for four at $220 (only four available), a Reserved Table for four at $200 and a Group Table for 10 at $350. Open tables, chairs and high tops are also available on a first come basis.
Tickets are on sale through TicketsCandy. The listing also says guests staying overnight at the resort can save 20% by booking at Saddlebrook.com with the promo code SADDLEBROOKLIFE.
