Ceremonies

Veterans Memorial Park and Museum, 3602 N. U.S. Highway 301, Tampa, is Hillsborough County’s memorial park for veterans of all eras and, in the county’s words, “a location for regional ceremonies on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Patriot Day” (county page). The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum. The 2027 ceremony time has not been posted; call 813-635-8316.

The City of Tampa has been building Veterans Plazas in its parks, with the goal of one in each of the four City Council districts. The second opened at Port Tampa Park in November 2024 (city announcement).

Trash pickup changes

From the city’s 2026 Memorial Day notice:

  • Residential: no service on Memorial Day; the regular schedule resumed Tuesday. Monday homes got no make-up day.
  • Commercial: no service on Memorial Day, then a one-day delay for the rest of the week.
  • McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House, 114 S. 34th St.: closed on Memorial Day.

  • City offices: closed Monday, May 31, 2027, per the city holiday calendar.
  • Schools: Hillsborough County Public Schools’ last day of classes is Friday, May 28, 2027, the Friday before Memorial Day; seniors finish May 20 (district calendar).
  • City pools: Bobby Hicks, Danny Del Rio, Loretta Ingraham and Roy Jenkins pools are open year-round, and the city posts holiday open-swim hours on its pool facilities page, as it did for Labor Day 2026.

On the roads and the water

Before Memorial Day weekend 2025, the Tampa Police Department stepped up patrols under Operation Zero Proof, aimed at drunk driving and boating under the influence (TPD release). Plan a sober ride before the weekend starts.
